Movie Matters #4

The Movie Matters podcast returns for its final episode of 2010. Co-hosts Lee Howard and Michael Mackenzie exchange Christmas presents, tackling Frank Darabont's THE MIST and Roman Polanski's THE GHOST (a.k.a. THE GHOST WRITER). We also discuss upcoming Blu-ray and DVD releases of interest, induct another title into the Blu-ray Hall of Fame, and discuss the films we tend to watch over the festive period.

TThe music sampled in this episode is from HOME ALONE (John Williams), THE GOONIES (Dave Grusin) and TOY STORY (Randy Newman), with clips from THE MIST and THE GHOST. Special thanks to David Mackenzie for audio support.

  1. 2 things mentioned in this episode that I'd like to comment on:

    A) Re: B&W films released "today" - The Good German was released in B&W (although it was a flop), so I wonder if Darabont has less sway than Soderbergh and also if he wasn't as adamant about it because he wanted his movie to make some profit.

    B) My Top 10 of 2010:

    1. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
    2. Black Swan
    3. Inception
    4. Shutter Island
    5. The Social Network
    6. Iron Man 2
    7. Frozen
    8. Machete
    9. Piranha 3D
    10. Predators

Lots of "schlock", but that's what I went to see this year, apparently.

Also, I plugged your podcast on my FB profile.

  4. I would be honored.

Actually I'm going to see True Grit tonight.
I have a feeling it will make my Top 10 and bump Predators to the "honorable mentions".

I'll update my list on here if this happens (I hope it does).

My Szamanka PE DVD FINALLY arrived today from Amazon!!

  8. I really liked the reminiscing of holiday movies past. Of course, I watch 'Black Christmas' on Christmas. Also, I was a tad that neither of you mentioned Bob Clark's much more famous 'A Christmas Story', which I also watch every Christmas.

I still haven't seen either 'The Mist' or 'The Ghost'. Was 'The Ghost' really edited for language so that it could receive a PG-13 here in the States?
